EndNote can attempt to locate full text files on the Web by using data stored in your references. Once found, EndNote downloads and attaches the files to the references.
EndNote can use these methods when searching for full text publications:
Web of ScienceCore Collection Full Text Links
DOI (Digital Object Identifier)
PubMed LinkOut (U.S. National Library of Medicine)
OpenURL
EndNote will try to use all of these methods to optimize the likelihood of finding full text files associated with your bibliographic records.
The Web of Science Core Collection free journal set is checked for all users; subscribers may have full IP-based access to all resources. In cases where full text PDF files require a subscription, and you or your institution have the appropriate access, EndNote will attempt to authenticate and automatically download the appropriate files. If EndNote cannot find the full text file, it will often be able to attach the URL of the provider's Web page for the article for easier future access.
